The Adventure...

The Zero to TTRide Hero programme is Ticket to Ride’s signature trip, an action packed Adventure running for 11 weeks. Learn to surf, get involved in Community Projects, travel South Africa, and ultimately qualify as a surf instructor and surf lifesaver.

Surfing...

No previous surfing experience is required, and given the experience of the World Class coaches each Rider on the course will always get pushed to the maximum of their ability. The programme can be seen as the perfect introduction to surfing, or can be taken as an ideal time to maximise your ability, and take your surfing to and beyond the next level. All Riders receive over 60 hours tuition from South Africans elite coaches, including 2 former World Champions, aswell as unlimited tuition from TTRide’s highly qualified coaches.

Community Projects...

As well as endless surfing possibilities, South Africa is a country with incredible diversity. Riders will experience true African culture firsthand by engaging with charitable organisations already set up around South Africa. Community projects mean that Riders will be able to put something back into the areas that they will temporarily call home.

Ticket to Ride has pinpointed 8 locations around South Africa to not only provide its Riders with the perfect opportunity of learning to surf whilst getting involved in community projects, but also to provide the ultimate travelling experience in what we firmly believe to be the most incredible country in the world.

More than just an experience...

Recognised as the most effective way to learn to surf in a short period of time all Riders are trained to qualify as SSA Level 1 Surf Instructors and SPA Surf Lifesavers. All qualifications are globally enabling you to work on beaches all around the world, and giving you more than just memories to return home with.

Who are we looking for?

Young and energetic individuals up for a challenge; those wanting to learn to surf, travel South Africa, get involved in community projects and gain internationally recognised qualifications in Surf coaching and Surf Lifesaving.

We have courses suitable for Gap Year, Career Break, or Post University.

No previous surfing experience is required. However, enthusiasm, determination, and a sense of adventure are essential.

"Before going on Ticket to Ride, I had never stepped foot on a surfboard apart from a few frustrating hours with friends in Cornwall. Four years later however, I found out about Ticket to Ride's Gap Year Surfing adventure in South Africa.
I earnt the money for the trip in the first few months of my Gap Year. Once out in South Africa, I managed to stand up on my second attempt and quickly advanced to much bigger waves and challenges through their help. Ticket to Ride taught me valuable skills through both surfing and charity work and I ended up as a fully qualified surf instructor and beach lifeguard.
After arriving back in England I was quickly got offered a job in Portugal, teaching surfing for the whole summer, all thanks to Ticket to Ride. Not a bad way to spend your gap year, I'm sure you'll agree."
