For applicants from the UK, we have a number of bursary schemes available for volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.
Our bursary scheme and funded placement projects reduce the barrier of cost for young people experiencing financial problems. They are designed to help young people who would not otherwise be able to afford to go.
For more information contact Liz McKenna on lmckenna@lattitude.org.uk
This is a unique opportunity to work on an ecological placement in the Andean cloud forest. This is an isolated and very beautiful organic farming community of about 40 families and environmental centre about 1.5 to 2 hrs from the capital city.
The area has a spectacular series of pre Inca trails. The community produces jams, cheeses, etc, and is involved in reforestation projects and is attempting to set up as an ecotourism venture. Our volunteers teach in the community School in the mornings and are involved in other activities in the afternoons such as guiding on treks (and sometimes herding cattle !). Volunteers teach English and environmental awareness to both children and adults.
This is a fascinating and demanding project with fairly basic living conditions. Accommodation is in the guest house. The meals arrangement is under the responsibility of every family on a rotating basis which gives the volunteer a unique opportunity to feel part of the village or 'minda' (indigenous name for co-operative).
Qualities skills required
