Do you want to reach out to troubled children and learn Portuguese in the vibrant setting of Brazil? Oyster offers three challenging and immensely rewarding projects working with children in and around Sao Paulo. You could help at a children’s home based in beautiful countryside which offers a fresh start to children coming from a background of unspeakable hardship in the favelas.
Alternatively there’s a thriving day centre based in a favela which provides, activities, support and inspiration to local children. Or why not help look after children with disabilities at the friendly and happy Leonard Cheshire home? It’s a well-equipped centre providing offering much-needed care and facilities for children and young people.
The work will be challenging, but you’ll be inspired by the vision and commitment you see at these projects and you’ll almost certainly be changed by the experience. The beauty and buzz of Brazil will be there to enjoy when you need to recharge your batteries. Sao Paulo is very cosmopolitan and within reach of glorious scenery and pristine beaches.
Where will I live..?
In all cases you will live either on site or very close by in safe, secure accommodation with another volunteer. It will be basic but comfortable and food will be provided, although you may have to cater for yourself on occasions.
Oyster Worldwide support
We offer a very personal service and are always happy to chat things through. Shortly before you leave we’ll hold a pre-departure course where you’ll meet fellow volunteers and get thorough preparation to help you with working and living in Brazil. On arrival in Brazil you’ll be met by our local representative who will help you settle in. She will co-ordinate the language course, voluntary programme and expedition and offer you friendship and support. She will also report back to the UK office to keep us updated on your progress.
