Someone with love of children is needed for this project, as is a strong heart due to the nature of the work and the situation these children are in. The children can be naturally disruptive at times so bring lots of patience! Those who can communicate in basic Brazilian Portuguese and/or Intermediate Spanish will enjoy their time more. If you don't speak the language, take some lessons before you come as well as joining lessons at the accommodation in country.

Working with children can be fun and exciting but you never know what they are going to do next so be prepared for every eventuality! We include the i-to-i 40 hour online TEFL course to help with your preparation. This is the perfect placement to take as part of a gap year and can help you develop skills that will last a lifetime.

Someone energetic! Energy is the most important characteristic to possess! Initiative, enthusiasm and patience are also important and those who are really pro-active have the opportunity to start their own activities as you will be working independently for much of the time. Any specific skills that you can contribute, such as teaching experience, environmental issues, community health advice, counselling and sports coaching will be appreciated.This is the perfect placement to take as part of a gap year and can be combined with other i-to-i projects.
