The Australia Working Holiday Visa gives young people between the ages of 18 and 30 from Working Holiday Visa eligible countries the opportunity to have an extended stay in Australia for up to 24 months.

The visa allows you to make your initial entry into Australia no later than 12 months from the date that the visa was granted. The visa permits you to stay in Australia 12 months from the date that you first enter Australia. You may leave and re-enter Australia as many times as you wish during your 12 month stay. However, if you depart Australia during your 12 month stay you are not able to recover the period of time you have spent outside Australia.

Additionally, applicants MUST hold a passport from one of the ETA Eligible Countries. The list of countries is as follows:

Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong (SAR), Italy, Japan, Malta, Norway, Republic of Cyprus, Republic of Ireland, Republic of Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, The Netherlands, United Kingdom.

What's more, if you still don't want to go home after your first year is over, the Government will allow Working Holiday Visa holders the opportunity to apply for a second Working Holiday Visa (provided they have worked as an employee in specified work in regional Australia for 3 months).

The application for a first Australia Working Holiday Visa must be made offshore. Applications for a second Australia Working Holiday Visa can be made both offshore and onshore in Australia.

Also, please note that while the Working Holiday Visa gives young people casual work rights in order to supplement their travel, but bewarned; regulations stipulate that work undertaken must be incidental to the main purpose of holidaying, and employment for more than 6 months with any one employer is not allowed. Additionally, you must not engage, for more than 4 months, in any studies or training.  It is very important to abide by these visa conditions. Failure to do so may result in the visa being cancelled and a requirement to leave Australia.

Furthermoire, a medical will be required for anyone seeking employment in healthcare (doctors, nurses, care workers) or anyone seeking employment in the teaching profession. If you have spent more than 3 consecutive months in the last 5 years in a country considered to be of high health risk, you will be required to have a medical exam. Depending on the circumstances, the Australian Government office has the right to add further health requirements at the discretion of the visa processing officer.

Finally, you must have access to sufficient funds to support yourself for the initial stage of your holiday in Australia and you may be asked to show evidence of this on arrival. A sufficient amount is generally regarded as being a minimum of AUD$5,000 (£2,200), although the amount may vary depending on your length of stay and how much travelling you intend to do. You should also have a return or onward ticket or the funds for a fare to depart Australia if travelling on a one way ticket.
