Before boarding the train you must take your pass and passport to the Amtrak ticket office where they will issue a free ticket for your journey. You must have a reservation for each journey, it is recommended that reservations be made as far in advance as possible and before arrival in the US but they can be booked at the train station subject to availability. Reservations can be made free of charge through International Rail when booking your pass or by contacting Amtrak on 1-800-872-7245. Upgrades and sleeping accommodation will be charged extra..

Amtrak Rail passes which are lost, stolen or validated/exchanged cannot be refunded. Refunds are only accepted on vouchers returned to International Rail before the start of their validity. Vouchers returned for cancellation or alterations have a standard 15% cancellation/exchange fee in addition to an administrative charge per ticket. Cancellation/alteration fees will be charged on each voucher returned. Duplicate or replacement passes cannot be issued under any circumstances.
