The Amtrak West Rail Pass covers the whole of Western America from Chicago and New Orleans in the East to the Pacific in the West you will find more than Cowboys and Indians. Lush forests, great plains of wheat, snow capped mountains, sandy beaches, sun baked deserts, rolling hills and rugged canyons should give you some idea of the diverse landscapes to be found in this half of the country and its not just the scenery. The people are as varied as the lands that they live upon.

A more specialised pass such as the Amtrak West Rail Pass is great if you are only visiting one part of the country and lets face it America is so vast that its almost impossible to do it all in one go, unless you have a lot of time and even more money! This pass is an affordable way to get to the places where you want to go without the hassle of airports or hire cars.Peak periods: 14th December 2007 � 2nd January 2008, 23rd May -1st September 2008. Off peak periods: 4th September � 13th December 2007, 3rd January- 22nd May 2008, 2nd September � 11th December 2008. If any part of your journey falls within a peak period you must purchase a peak period pass.

- 15 or 30 days travel.
- Cheaper fares in off peak periods.
- Unlimited coach class travel.
- Travel between the US and Vancouver in Canada (on through services only).
- Children 2-15 years inclusive travel for half price when accompanied by a full-fare paying adult. Two children are permitted per adult fare. One child under 2 years of age may travel free with each fare-paying adult.
- Unlimited stopovers.
- Access to any Amtrak train station.
- Flexibility.
What you don�t get
- Upgrades and sleeping accommodation will be charged extra.
- In addition to a rail pass you will need a reservation for each train you travel on.
- Amtrak passes are not valid on the Auto Train, Acela Express, certain Thruway connections and the Canadian portion of trains operated jointly by Amtrak and Via Rail.
- Services to Toronto from the US � these trains are operated by VIA.
