Why buy this?

America is so huge that is difficult to see it all in one trip that�s why Amtrak have come up with more specialised passes such as the Amtrak East Rail Pass. These passes are great if you are only visiting one part of the country as they allow you the freedom of a pass without having to pay for all the states that you aren�t planning to visit. This pass is an affordable way to get to the places where you want to go without the hassle of airports or hire cars.

What you get

• Unlimited coach class travel.
• Travel between the US and Montreal in Canada (on through services only).
• Children 2-15 years inclusive travel for half price when accompanied by a full-fare paying adult. Two children are permitted per adult fare. One child under 2 years of age may travel free with each fare-paying adult.

• Access to any Amtrak train station.
• Flexibility.

What you don�t get

• Upgrades and sleeping accommodation will be charged extra.
• In addition to a rail pass you will need a reservation for each train you travel on.
• Amtrak passes are not valid on the Auto Train, Acela Express, certain Thruway connections and the Canadian portion of trains operated jointly by Amtrak and Via Rail.
• Services to Toronto from the US � these trains are operated by VIA.

How it works

Passes are valid for 15 or 30 consecutive days of travel. When booking an Amtrak pass you must provide us with your first journey. You will be issued with a voucher which must be exchanged at this first station for your actual pass. Before boarding the train you must take your pass and passport to the Amtrak ticket office where they will issue a free ticket for your journey. You must have a reservation for each journey, it is recommended that reservations be made as far in advance as possible and before arrival in the US but they can be booked at the train station subject to availability. Reservations can be made free of charge through International Rail when booking your pass or by contacting Amtrak on 1-800-872-7245. Upgrades and sleeping accommodation will be charged extra.

Cancellations and refunds

Amtrak Rail passes which are lost, stolen or validated/exchanged cannot be refunded. Refunds are only accepted on vouchers returned to International Rail before the start of their validity. Vouchers returned for cancellation or alterations have a standard 15% cancellation/exchange fee in addition to an administrative charge per ticket. Cancellation/alteration fees will be charged on each voucher returned. Duplicate or replacement passes cannot be issued under any circumstances. Reservations, upgrades and sleeping accommodation are non-exchangeable and non-refundable.
