Espace Killy

Espace Killy offers 11, 000 hectares of snow fields and 300km of groomed runs with its direct connection to Val d’Isere. The back-country terrain that is accessible from lift-serviced pistes is out of this world, giving access each season to the 6 and 10 meters of snow falling each winter!

It also has two parks equipped with half pipes, the only double bowl in France, big air kickers, hips, hand rails, boarder cross, and a multitude of small and medium tables. Powder and vertical are never far way, particularly if you venture through the tree runs up at Le Fornet or down the steep couloirs of Le Grande Motte, making Val D’Isere and Tignes one of the most all round resorts in Europe.

Tignes Town

Tignes is one of France’s most popular ski resorts, and its most snow sure. Not only does Espace Killy offer a direct connection to the pistes of Val d’Isere, but the glacier enables the ski area to operate throughout the year, and the back-country terrain that is accessible from lift-serviced pistes is out of this world!

Its life après ski is also much appreciated by the seasonnaires.

Accommodation

Accommodation in Tignes is in apartments located in the centre of Town in Tignes Le Lac, 5 minutes walk to the slopes and on the high street. Our apartments are comfortable, private and secure. They all have their own entrances within a larger residence that also provides ski lockers, a communal area and staffed entrance foyer. Apartments are fully equipped and furnished and have self-catering facilities.

All the instructors we work with are BASI Trainers and actually examine for BASI. Steve Rickets heads up BASS in Tignes and Colin Tanner heads up The Development Centre. Between them they have a wealth of knowledge and experienced BASI instructors and have a record that is unparalleled in training people for their BASI instructor qualifications.

BASS and The Development Centre are ideal ski schools to provide a focused and knowledge based instructor course. Whether it is preparing you for your BASI exams or developing your technique in your personal skiing, the personal attention and the ability to communicate to each individual client is unique.

Programme: The first week will introduce you to the Tignes ski area, and bring your skiing back up to the suitable level. Training consists of slalom or freestyle coaching for those on the improvement programme and shadowing for clients taking their BASI Instructor Level 2.
Activities: Video workshops, Child Protection, and teaching theory sessions take place. Base Campers have a chance to work with some of the hottest freestyle riders in Europe.

Date: Nov 8 2008
Programme: Those preparing for BASI start teaching development and fine tune their demos. The week includes a day trip to Paradiski.
Activities: Video analysis takes place. Activities such as taboganning and pool competitions can be organised.

Date: Nov 15 2008
Programme: Clients on the improvement programme continue to work high end skills while those preparing for BASI exams finalise their skiing/boarding and teaching skills.
Activities: Henry's Avalanche Talk, and video analysis takes place. Cinema trips can be organised and there is plenty of live music on in town.

Programme: BASI Instructor Level 2 exams: a thorough examination of your technical and teaching skills and ability to communicate BASI's Central theme. Coaching continues for the improvement programme.
Activities: The exam includes 2 hour theory sessions each week covering the days work, video analysis, and technical theory. Social events continue.

Programme: The teaching week follows the technical week as the BASI examiners put you through your paces. Coaching continues for the improvement programme.
Activities: The exam includes 2 hour theory sessions each day including a written exam and preparing lesson plans. Social events and continue.

Date: Dec 6 2008
Programme: A fun week of pushing your skiing/boarding to the limits. Specialist coaching is available - land those 360s and add drop offs and tricks into your descents.
Activities: Hope the hangovers have receovered! A final week of themed evenings, farewell parties, and prize ceremonies to celebrate becoming an instructor!
