This programme is ideally suited to individuals looking to train and work in the winter sports industry, whether you are an school/university leaver or someone looking to escape the rat race and pressures of more regular work. It will equip you with the necessary qualifications and also put you into contact with many of the major employers, so you will have work options as soon as you are qualified.
The Ski and Snowboard Course
This programme is one of the best opportunities to gain your NZSIA/SBINZ CSI and Stage 1 Qualifications, allowing you to teach all of the way to high intermediate students.
The first 4 weeks of the programme are dedicated to working on your own technique, to iron-out any flaws or bad habits. In addition to this, during these sessions you will learn the correct terminology and teaching methods used to demonstrate the required skills, so every moment on the mountain will be a full learning experience.
The Qualifications
There are 2 main qualifications you'll be looking to complete during this instructor programme – the NZSIA/SBINZ CSI and Stage 1.
NZSIA/SBINZ CSI:
The Certificate in Ski Instruction (CSI) is an entry-level qualification that permits you to teach novices to advanced beginners. The course takes 4 days to complete and requires you to demonstrate the ability to teach basic principles, analyse individual ability i.e. strengths and weaknesses, class handling, safety and to be able to deal with both children and adult beginners.
NZSIA/SBINZ Stage 1:
The New Zealand Snow-sports Instructor Alliance and Snow Boarding Instruction New Zealand Stage 1 course is a requirement for anyone looking to instruct skiing/snowboarding beyond the beginner level. It permits you to teach up to Advanced Intermediate level and is generally a minimum level qualification for anyone looking to work in a ski school. The NZSIA Stage 1 is an 8 Day course/exam.
